2018 Year in Review

2018 was a busy year! With the creation of our "Miles of Smiles", we saw more schools and students take interest in daily running programs. See below our year of accomplishments!
In 2018, we launched the “Miles of Smiles” running program.
The goal of the program is to have students average at least one mile per day to help put a smile on the face and improve focus in the classroom. We believe “Miles of Smiles” will help each student reach their goals of good mental, physical and emotional health.
Congratulations to Casey Hagy and the Students at Christa McAuliffe. 471 students participate and averaged 63 miles per year! Way to go Christa McAuliffe Elementary 2018 – 2019.
Our annual fundraiser, the O’side Turkey Trot generated $23,000 for local schools and non-profits. See how much each of our charities raised here.
We also received a $4,300 grant from the Oceanside Charitable Foundation to continue funding our Miles of Smiles program in 2019!

Running Programs

Every Fall, we help coordinate running programs at local elementary schools. Our 6-8 week training guide prepares children to run a mile without stopping. Our programs are free for children to participate in. In 2017, the Move Your Feet Before You Eat!® Foundation donated $10,375 to OUSD schools.
O’side Turkey Trot

North County's Favorite Thanksgiving Day Tradition
The PMCU O’side Turkey Trot presents an opportunity for all members of the family to get involved with its 10K Run, 5K-Combination Run/Walk and multiple Children’s Races. It debuted with 2,200 participants in 2006 and quickly grew to over 10,000 entries in last year’s race.
This beachside course starts at the Oceanside Civic Center and wraps around the Oceanside Harbor front all the way to the end, on The Strand, near the Oceanside Pier. This downhill race course, with coastal breezes pushing the runners forward, makes for sizzling fast times with runners inspired by close crashing waves.
Race proceeds support the “Move Your Feet Before You Eat®!” Foundation, local Oceanside and North County Schools and additional participating non-profits. The race allows participants to personally select their beneficiary from a wide variety of worthy non-profit organizations. Since its inception, the “Oceanside Turkey Trot” has raised over $237,000 for its participating charities.
Year after year, the race is a great way to burn off those extra Thanksgiving Day calories. According to the American Council on Fitness, the average person consumes approximately 3,000 calories on Thanksgiving Day. To help battle that excess, runners can come burn more than 500 calories during the 10K Race, just enough for that scrumptious slice of pumpkin pie.
The picturesque view and exciting downhill route are not the only perks to begin your Thanksgiving Day. People traditionally get into the Thanksgiving Day spirit by dressing up in Thanksgiving inspired costumes. Costumed participants are automatically entered into a chance to win prizes for their creativity and Thanksgiving spirited costumes. There will be food, drinks and music at the race. All finishers will get finisher medals, while winners in each division will receive medals with special gift certificates and other prizes for overall Top 3 placements in the women’s and men’s divisions.
Please visit osideturkeytrot.com for race day details and registration or to sign up to volunteer at North County’s favorite Thanksgiving Day tradition.
